Default Spam ads popping up on my PC...

Anyone know how to remove these? They just started occuring recently, and when I'm connected to the internet. Well, now that I got DSL 2 days ago, this is all the time. It's annoying, and it crashes EQ, and interrupts other programs.

Download AdAware from www.lavasoft.nu and run a scan. My guess is that you've managed to get Gator installed on your computer.

You could go reading through a bunch of posts how to stop the pop ups or you could simply go to:

Start -> Run -> net stop messenger

if it's a little grey box with text only (messenger.. not MSN messenger.. a different program entirely) then it is really easy to stop.

Go into control panel
go to performance and maintenance
go to administrative tools
go to services
scroll down to "messenger"
double click to bring up properties
under the "general" tab go down to startup type and switch it to disable
click apply
you don't need that program, it used to be used to send messages across networks easily, but is pretty outdated and you don't need it for any other programs.
reboot computer

if it's just normal popups then look at festivus' post
