Default No comments on the Ragefire change? hmm

So there is a patch today, and one of the things they are doing is changing the Ragefire portion of the Cleric epic. I can't believe there isn't already a post on this.

Heck, I've never played a cleric but I've been keeping an eye on this. Yesterday, or the day before, or sometime I dunno when someone said that there will be a change to Ragefire coming soon.

Then last night at around 10:45pm Absor himself made a post saying that the Ragefire change will be going live in todays patch. The patch is scheduled for 3am PDT, which I believe is 6am EST. (dammit, no lodi!) My time here is incorrect I think. they also list 10am GMT, which is 5am EST. Either way I plan to be asleep :P

If you want to have some fun, I suggest you check out skyfire later on today after this 4 hour patch, I betcha there will be a LOT of people in the zone checking things out, spamming whatever NPC they put up to give quest clues, etc. :P

I'll definately be there.

*chuckle* well some of us just woke up. I'm not holding my breath, a lot of people have been waiting years longer than I have. I'll deal.

[Wed Sep 04 14:20:45 2002] Askarak says, 'Hail, Warder Cecilia'
[Wed Sep 04 14:20:45 2002] Warder Cecilia says 'Greetings, you have made excellent time. We received word that Zordak was gathering his power here, and we still have little knowledge of his true intentions. Scattered throughout these mountains there are small Pearlescent Shards, binding four of these shards together within a Box of Binding should allow me to create a Seal. This seal, when fused with a Swirling Pearl inside Zordak's heart should allow our seers to divinie his true intentions, even after he has been slain. Once you have the seal I will release Zordak, make haste I will not be able to hold him for long.'

Looks like they made him a triggered spawn by doing a side quest

Has anyone actually found one of those pearl shards?

Does anyone actually believe Verant is going to do something to make Ragefire easier?

My guess is they are just shifting the frustrations from sitting and waiting for RF to pop to a frustrating camp for some pearl shards. But who knows, I guess Verant could have done something to make it better...... nah, it's very doubtful.

Well at least if nothing else, the arguement that ragefire is no longer a 'camp' because there is nothing required but to sit there and wait for him to show up appears to have disappeared.

Will be interesting to see how long the shards camp is though. I can see it now, 'camp check' in Skyfire, and you see all the spawn spots camped 24/7 for a while .

Triggered Ragefire probably only drops one item and no longer drops stuff like red scales, cof etc..

Rare drops from anywhere in SF?

I imagine SF is going to be VERY busy the next few days.. I know there's a few cleric epics in EH I want to get done (before they change this back.. because this sounds *way* too easy).

By them confirming to be rare drops and no drop it means that someone has to have found one? (since we know they are no drop). Doesn't seem 'too' rare, if in the time that the server has been up someone already got one.

Granted I'm at work, for all I know there could have been 400 people in the zone killing every spawn.

Any other information Zelious? Drops off certain types so far, etc? I can just see them being something that drops only off the guardian wurms or something.

Word was <30 mins per warder repop.

<shrugs>

Addendum: You apparantly need the pearl from Zordak in SolB before you can trigger RF though, so once the backlog is done at most 1 new epic per day will enter the world.

Seems to drop off anything in Skyfire. Drops have been off a Mature Wyvern and an Old Wurm (from people I've talked to). We camped for about an hour and a half and got nothing, and an affliction group was there for a bit longer than us and got nothing when we left. So they are pretty rare.

Not a bad way to solve it i guess but I'd have thought it better to add the shards to random spawn tables in select kunark/ oldworld zones, rather than have everyone camping Skyfire - one of THE most boring zones out there and crappy exp for anyone over level 55 - i suppose the exp changes in this same patch might've changed that though?...

2 shards over the course of about 6 hours of total pulling today with 6-8 people...we had 3 groups out there at one point but it didn't last long. :P

It seems that all 4 fragments could be reasonably gained by one group in a 24 hour span. That's a lot shorter than either of the old RF camps....not to mention this can be done leisurely, and doesn't require that one have phone lists, avatar shifts, etc...and that the cleric and their guild doesn't put their lives on hold for 2 or 3 days.

GREAT change if you ask me.

This means you can get exp at the same time. Previousally, you COULD, but it was hard to drag people down there. Now, any guild group can be persuaded to come down and just hang out.

Anyone tried AE'ing this zone yet for these?

So anyone on EMarr managed to get the new RF triggered and killed yet?

It's a great change but I can already see all these dupe shards rotting, Clerics of all lvls camping in SF hoping to get lucky and catch a group generous enough to let them loot a dupe and the frustrations of Clerics as they keep getting dupes instead of the ones they need. Naaah, I'm not pessimistic. lol

Yep, we killed the new Ragefire for Quistil today, total shard camp time was.. not long. Rage didn't last any longer than he did before the change in the quest, and his loot table seems to have remained the same (dropped 3 items).

Yep I got my Epic yesterday (FINALLY). I know I wasn't the first person on the server to get an Epic after the change but I'm fairly certain that I was the second or third. Anyway, here's a post I made on EQClerics concerning my whole "ordeal"

------------------------------------------------------------

Ragefire, the new Shards/Fragements and my experiences.

First of all, I think this is a VERY good change. It completely eliminates the competitive nature over a single bottleneck on an insane timer. I gave up on my Epic just because I wasn’t going to put up with the Ragefire crap. Every other Ragefire had drama and bad will attached to it and I wasn’t going to deal with that.

Anyway… I spent about 12 hours, give or take, in Skyfire gathering the Pearlescent Fragments. They look like Pearls, are No Drop and labelled CLR / Human, High Elf, Erudite etc. only. They weight 6.0 each <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> From my experiences, they can drop off of most, if not all, the mobs in the zone. I got Fragments from a Mature Wurm, an Old Wurm, a Mature or Elder Wyvern (can’t remember which), and a Skyfire Drake. I had anywhere from 1 person to 7 other people helping me at all times and we just pulled stuff (avoiding those God awful Chromo-Drakes) and killed it all. They seemed totally random, I went for 6 hours without a single Fragment dropping and then got 2 Fragements within 10 mintues of each other. This was done in 2 shifts, I spent awhile yesterday (Sept 4) camping these things and got 2. Got my other 2 today (Sept 5).

As stated, these drop from most, if not all, mobs in the zone but my groups setup our camp near Veeshan’s Peak for several reasons:

1. The area around Veeshan’s Peak is higher in level than other areas in the zone with 90% of the mobs Dark Blue to Level 60. I don’t know if higher mobs have a better chance to drop Fragments or not, but it seemed a safe bet.

2. The area around Veeshan’s Peak is totally safe. If you are facing the entrance, we set up camp outside the tunnel to the right (had our backs to the wall). There were roamers here but not many and you can, normally, see them coming a mile away. If we needed to med or CR (Guardian Wurm got us once), we just moved to the top of the Peak where it is 99% safe (won’t say completely safe but in my VP raids and wipeouts, I’ve never seen a mob path on top of the peak).

3. There were NO other people around. There were upwards of 70 people in the zone last night and everyone else seemed to be setting up camp on the wall from where the Warder spawns (Rage’s old spawn spot) to the Druid portal in spot. All night people were bitching and moaning about being pulled over, KS’d etc. Meanwhile, my group was doing non-stop pulls without a single person nearby to get in our way (or vice versa).

During this stay, there was a share of “opportunists” or as I like to refer to them, slime that is lower than dirt. Most of these people didn’t stick around too long but they were, typically, solo Druids and Necromancers looking to stir up trouble by “claiming” to have destroyed 3 Shards in the last 15 minutes or those attempting to sell “looting rights” for potential Shard Drops. Most of these people didn’t last too long as the whole zone was against them. There were a lot of solo kiters here who expressed disappointment that “their” zone was being invaded but for the most part they just moved out of people’s way and continued to exp there. In fact this was who I got my first Fragement. A soloer dropped a mob with a Fragement on the West Wall and shouted out the /loc. Once again, the advantage of hunting by VP came into play since everyone else was near zone borders and nowhere near the Fragement. I was easily able to scoot over there and snatch it up.

Now, my thoughts are that, in all honesty, the Fragements might be a bit too common right now. I did it in 12 hours but only had 1.5 groups at the most. Fragements are pretty much in line for this style setup, though I lean towards being too common, but when you have Guilds bringing in 20 – 40 people, they can get a set of Fragements within an hour or two just by wholesale slaughter. I’ll admit, I went after my Fragements fast because I fear a drop rate nerf incoming. I’ll be VERY surprised if Verant views the drop rate as being where they want it.

Overall though, it’s a VERY good change. It does make the Epic a LOT easier but it’s still not the easiest. A higher level guild can push a Cleric through the entire Epic in a weekend. A lower level Guild is still going to get hung up with Ixiblat and the Overking. Neither of those events are what I would call “trivial.” They’re not hard for a well equipped Guild but for a smaller Guild, they both represent some serious challenges.

Oh, Ragefire is exactly the same. He lasted, exactly 10 seconds since I had 3 Manaburn Guildies with me.

Alethia,

The shards aren't lore. There are no dupe shards. They are all the same item, you just need 4.

Seems to me like they toned down the drop rate (either the afternoon patch or the one two nights ago), we spent about 10 hours in SF non-stop killing and didn't even get one =/
