Kerryn:

Same thing goes for Gone in 60 Seconds. Both of those movies are bad for my road rage which is already pretty high

Don't play Grand Theft Auto III during lunch and then jump in your truck and drive back to work either. Takes a while to slip back into the "pedestrians are not speedbumps" mindset after that game.

I'm not saying that if you can't drive watching The Fast and the Furious and waiting 4 days will make you roadworthy.

What I'm saying is that if you can drive, you probably shouldn't till you've chilled out a bit. Reminds me of that piano joke.

Anyway I was at the lights waiting for them to go green. They flipped to amber and I dropped the clutch. Hard. My Escort can't do a quarter mile in under 10 seconds so the engine nearly jumped out of the bonnet ( Hood ).

Then I changed lanes to fire past a truck and I don't think I was as surprised as the guy in the Peugeot ( Purr-gho not Pew-gho ) 306 that was already occupying that space. I was gonna fire my nitrous but it seemed to be malfunctioning.

Either that or I don't have nitrous.

Lol -- I've been there. I played GTA for like 5 hours, then I had to drive for about half an hour to go to a store. I kept wanting to drive around slow cars onto the sidewalks, go 80 in 25 zones, and do other generally reckless things. Fortunately, common sense prevailed.

Hail,

Saw this in the theaters the first weekend it came out.
It definitely does create the urge to drive fast. Lucky for me, I overcame temptation. Or maybe it was just the fact that I drive a 6 cylinder 2001 Alero... I like the car, but it isn't going to be on the cover of any magazine any time soon.

What looked like TWO car clubs decided to bring their rides & testosterone to the parking lot and nearby streets that night.

The police were waiting for them in the theater lot when the movie ended, and people STILL peeled out of their parking spots and out the exit stoplight. /boggle

Wonder if the "display of speed" & other tickets were factored into the dating budget of the little Civic driver. He didn't look too happy as I drove past him & the cruiser that had pulled him over.

Take care,

Bah

Buy a relatively new sportbike and blow any of those cars away for 1/100th of the price. 9 second car.. bah.. $10,000 US will buy a 9 second bike.

And look good doing it.

Haven't seen Fast and the Furious...saw Gone in 60 Seconds, though...

Play GTA3 whenever I can...anytime I'm ever driving after that though...I'll pass a nice car, I'll watch it for a few seconds and think to myself..."Yeah...I could steal that..." Or want to stand on top of a police car hood firing away at civilians...

Bad thoughts out...good thoughts in...

I must agree that this movie does give you a bit of an urge to spin tires, pass people moving slowly (speed limit or so), and generally do things that would get you a ticket.

Ok, story...

Saw the movie this past summer and liked it quite a bit... You know... fast cars, pretty girls, good action... everything a guy likes in a movie. So one week ago I was day-dreaming while driving and decided to find out how fast my '91 Grand Prix (with an automatic transmission) could do a quarter mile. I turned on to a back road, threw it out of Over Drive and into Drive, and "put the pedal to the metal". I estimated by my watch that it was about 15-17 seconds. Not bad. What was bad was the police officer sitting a little bit after the end of my quarter mile. Luckily I had already slowed down and only got a ticket for 72 in a 55 mph zone. DOH!

I've driven a bit safer (slower) since then.

Moral: Drive Safely, not Quickly.
