That was a great article thanks for posting the link blytzz.

The author had a point of view I hadn't heard before but I definately find myself agreeing with him.

The record companies are so worried, thinking that they are losing money when in fact free music promotes sales.

Like the author said, who wants to try spend $17 on a CD that you don't know if you will like? Listening to a sample may intrigue a person to go out and buy a CD, I know it has for me.

The author was someone in the music industry. Someone who is being 'stolen' from.

Sure... you can call it stealing. Technically you are absolutely correct.

I downloaded a song last month that I had heard somewhere. I then went and found more information on the album it came from because I liked the song so much. I found more songs from the album that I liked. I went out and bought the CD the next day. (I like quality sound, personally.)

So I stole that guy's song. The next day I gave that guy $15.00. If it were not for the ability to download his song, I would have never stole it, nor would I have bought his CD.

I guess I buy an extra 15 CD's a year because of this ability.

Now you tell me, think that artist would be pissed, or pleasantly surprised?

Have you ever tape recorded a song from the radio?

Or dubbed a movie off the television?

Maybe you read your friends magazine which you didn't pay for either.

Same senario, different mediums. You are stepping on a lot of toes when you call someone a thief like that.

I'm sure you could care less though, but to each his own.

It's true.. I have bought quite a few CD's over the years because I heard one song on the radio.. then went and downloaded a few more songs off napster/audiogalaxy and really liked them.. so I bought the CD. Also.. there are alot of hard to find songs out there that I just haven't been able to find anywhere else besides a file sharing program. I think they are very good for the music industry as a whole.

Not to say I haven't DL'd songs and written them to CD's and never bought the CD cause most of thier other songs were crap.. but that's what they get for only making one good song

I am a bad person.. I have..
recorded movies and TV shows (even football.. and I didn't have the written consent of the national football league)
Recorded the radio onto tapes and recorded other tapes onto blank tapes
When I was poor and going to college I frequently recorded PS, Saturn and PC games..

I guess I have done alot worse than sharing MP3's..
