Here ya go hun...
http://eqlive.station.sony.com/eqim.jsp

By the way...I could not get mine to accept my PW. I posted it on the tech help eq board & they said to change my eq password & that worked. Then I couldn't get into the chat channels & thats because you type channel name only. It will promt you for password. If you enter channel name:PW it will boot you.

And crap it is. No Guild channel, for a start, so you have to add all your guildies and their alts by hand...

I think it's still beta, so i'm hoping the next release covers /gu... otherwise yeah, its pretty useless.

Is there an uninstall program or something for it? It doesn't add an entry into Add/Remove programs that I can see. And I don't know what files/registry keys it added so that I can fuck it off.

Regards,

CJ

Just in case someone from VI/Sony trolls these boards... Here's what I would to to EQIM to make it truly useable:

1 - speed it up. It takes a preposterous amount of time to determine who on your buddy list is online or not.

2 - You already write our (pathetically short, 30 entries per toon) friends lists into the multitude of .ini files you have in the EQ directory. Why not read those? I can even send you some code that will read sections from an ini file, it's not that hard.

3 - ADD THE --ING GUILD CHANNEL

4 - Look at the functionality of other instant messengers - most of it is not rocket science from a UI point of view. If you can't hack it, just write something like an EQ chat server to ICQ/AIM/MSN/Jabber gateway, so people can use a real instant messenger application.

Oh and I'm glad you gave up on the idea of actually charging for this piece of shit. How dumb do you think your EQ customers are? EQIM as it stands is a joke, any 15-year-old shareware author or skript kiddie can do better than that. EQIM needs a lot more oomph just in order to be an "okay" piece of software. You could have released this as an alpha, without ever mentioning that you'd like to charge people for it, and then built user acceptance on the basis of "we're adding this-that-and-the-other feature in the next release" as opposed to "Hey, we are so munificent in letting you have this, the be-all-and-end-all of chat but we'll charge you at some point." (I'm still guffawing about that.)

Honestly. Thanks for not charging for EQIM, but hey, if you don't want to keep looking silly with it, do something about it.

Okay. /rant off

Hmmm... I'm running a 256kbps cable connection and it takes EQIM about 4 minutes to update a 87-person buddy list... Now to me that's slow. ICQ doesn't have the same problem at all. Also, EQIM tends to crash if you try and send a buddy a message before the list update is complete. Sometimes, even hovering the mouse over the snazzy little controls that light up and all crashes the program if the update isn't complete... Sorry, but as a software developer, that's crap code to me. And slow.

my machine has very few problems with most apps ... doing things like clicking certain buttons in EQIM will either boot me or just crash my system ... i avoid it.
