Default How to get rid of that SOB Xupiter

Myself and many others were infected with this "parasite" program which is very hard to get rid of. I have found an excellent step by step guide on how to remove it from your system completely.

I loathe Xupiter with the heat of a thousand suns.

I have found Lavasoft's Adaware does a great job of removing the components in the registry (I was leery of altering the registry myself).

After I used Adaware to get rid of the components, I did a search on my computer and found a few Xupiter files. I was able to delete everything except for one .dll file, which was impossible to delete (when you tried, it said the file was currently in use).

I saved the file to my desktop and changed the file extension to .jpg. After rebooting my computer, I was able to delete the file.

I'm not a very technical person, but how can a company like Xupiter be allowed to install potentially dangerous advertising materials on your computer without your consent?

They can do that - because there is NO law IMPLICITLY disallowing them to do this. Isn't the justice system wonderful - all sorts of ways to protect the "criminals" and very few to protect the "victims".

God I hate these bastards!!!!

The driving forces behind Xupiter should be shot, their ancestral homes burned to the ground and covered with a thick layer of salt and earth such that NOTHING will EVER GROW THERE AGAIN!!!!!

And thanks for the info on how to kill of this parasite. I ended reformatting an HD largely due to this crap and upgraded the OS while I was at it.

Somewhere along the line you or someone else clicked a EULA that allowed it to be installed. From there you are at their mercy. I get about 6 calls a week where this POS program has broken Windows or IE. The crappy part is the uninstaller is located on the website. Nice catch-22 there.

I got that BS installed on my comp and I didn't click ok on any EULA =/ I remember the way I got that shit on my comp was when I got a 404 which automatically redirected me to xupiter.com, and next thing I know, shit is popping up left and right and I can't get rid of their toolbar on IE.

I like this better than AdAware, it found more stuff than AdAware ever did.

Is there any utility out there that can remove all that freaking GAIN shit from my computer? It doesn't matter how many times I uninstall it keeps coming back.

1) I never clicked any EULA for Xupiter. I seem to have caught it from a PoP Ad at our old Emarr EZboard. If having a pop up open means you've clicked yes to a EULA...

2) The uninstaller on Xupiter's site doesn't always remove the stuff from the registry.

Sometimes it's in the very fine print in the pop-up ad, and simply accidentally clicking the pop-up will start the process. There's a LOT of java based crap that can be done with those damned things. (IE "viruses" like JS_NOCLOSE, Exception_gen etc) so installing POS programs is easy to do, and the fact that you clicked the link (accidentally or not) allows them to get away with it.

Hate to disagree Miiphon but I think Xupiter uses a tacit assent as in you don't click no or close it fast enough the bugger installs.

I got hit by it once on EZboard when I wasn't running Pop-Up Stopper and it installed without me clicking anything.
