You must have a modem to connect to the internet via dial up, if you are not using your other computer on the internet you can just take the modem out (unless it is on the MB) and put it in the new one (provided the old modem is PCI). Other than that, a new modem is about 30-50 bucks, you don't want to get a winmodem of any kind and make sure it has the right interface, i.e. PCI. www.pricewatch.com is a great place to look up cheap prices. www.newegg.com is one of the companies that I use all the time when upgrading. |

depends... if you have your other computer connected via dial up / modem, and if it also has a network card...you can do ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) via the network cards which wont require another phone line or modem.... edit...but you would need a hub or a crossover cable. Cross over cable is a regular cat5 variety but with Tx (transmit) and Rx (recieve) lines swapped on one end. |
