I live in Singapore and me grandma used to make marmite and butter toast for breakfast. As kids I used to like Bovril much better cuz of the nicer taste. But I didn't mind marmite either
![]() I still think bovril tastes great when made into a cup of soup ![]() |

Interesting fact... Vegemite was originally developed in America.
Interesting opinion... Americans don't like it because it lacks 1/2 a ton of sugar ![]() Regards, CJ <-- Aussie and Vegemite lover |

IS there a difference between vegemite and marmite?? I can't seem to taste one.
(could be due to the fact that I haven't slept in 48 hours ... I loathe ... no, abhor ... wait, hate ... yeah, that's it! ... hate, hate, hate essays) Move along ... nothing to see here <returns to her corner>

I've found that countries that begin with "A" come up with tastes that go well together.
I've developed a taste for: Butter (not margarine) Vegemite (from Australia) Dulce de leche (from Argentina) On toast. Not bad. Theo |

I grew up in England, where (luckily) I was spared the ordeal of Vegemite. Marmite was bad enough. I'm Swiss, and they have similar horrors in tubes here called "Cenovis". And no, just because it's Swiss it doesn't mean it's any better, it's just more expensive.
Personally, I hate the stuff, but I'll agree that it's definitely an acquired taste... I guess you can get used to just about anything.

Marmite tastes fucking foul. No other words will do this horrific substance justice.

Nah Kerryn, Marmite isn't all that bad .. it's ok spread nice and thin on some hot buttered (extremely) toast.
But by no means is Marmite as good as Bovril!!!! Maybe it's my natural caveman instincts but Bovril is so much better hehe, again fantastic on hot buttered toast /swoon. oh and for all those that don't know... Bovril is basically the non vegetarian version of Marmite, where Marmite is made with Yeast extract Bovril is made with cow extract ![]()

Kegulik,
It's milk caramel actually. Very painstaking to make. Very yummy for the sweet tooth too. Theo |
