And how is that different from what they are doing?
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but lifting a car to free trapped children doesn't usually involve sawing a man's head off. And I find it real hard to believe that those responsible felt they were making their children safer by flying airplanes into the World Trade Center. It is entirely possible to provide for your kids without committing violent acts against others. Now, I don't have any children of my own, so I can't say for certain; it could very well be that my niece and nephew are so well provided for because my sister routinely makes human sacrifices to Allah.

I really don't think terrorists need me to dehumanize them, they're doing a pretty damn good job of doing that all by themselves. And, just because they follow a set of rules doesn't mean they are capable of reason, especially when one of their rules is "kill the infidels" (that's us, by the way). Hell, domesticated animals follow rules (don't jump on the counter, don't piss on the rug, etc.), but I don't see any success in trying to negotiate with my cat. Even still, if they are capable of such reason, why did they not try to negotiate with us before bombing the WTC in '93 or attacking US embassies in other countries? Couldn't they have communicated with us their problems before slaughtering thousands of people on our own soil in 2001? No, the time for reasoning has passed. It is time for action.

PS - please do not mistake my rather blunt way of communicating as an attack or flame against someone. I try to stay away from sugar

Another thing, a definitive underlying reason may not absolutely exist which is typical for every instance an islamic radical does something extreme. Something in human nature will follow divergent paths of reason through the heirarchy of emotional contexts in which its focus takes shape, and never repeat that occurrence. Which path reasoning takes is conditional to a choice. Like deliberating what goal we desire most at one moment in time. Then shutting out all time for that single end until it is reached.

Motivational reasoning is not just arithmetic, dealing with defined sets and categories of data, and thus easily predictable.

Being human is not always a matter of statics, black and white distinctions with Laws of Nature determining the entire set of causes which radical behaviour belongs in. Life is complicated. Dead is easier.

Shit happens.
