Default UN complains it's already "tried and convicted" over Iraq oil scandal

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...a_040507203424

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) - The United Nations (news - web sites) complained
that it had already been "tried and convicted" by the media in the burgeoning fraud and
bribery scandal over its Iraqi oil-for-food programme.
No way. Say it isn't so! And without proof? Deplorable.
the Media? *GASP*

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (news - web sites)'s spokesman lashed out
just a day after the head of a new inquiry into the programme ruled out making public
any documents about the case.

Now why should they produce documents. They are the elitist UN for crying-out-loud.
How dare anybody investigate the world dominating UN.

"I resent the allegation of a coverup. There's been a lot of irresponsible
charges made in the media over the last several weeks about the United
Nations," spokesman Fred Eckhard said.
Yep. And it's time to own up.

"We've been essentially tried and convicted in the press on the basis of virtually no evidence."
Maybe because they're (UN) trying to cover up the evidence?
(This is fun)
Journalists have been pressing for the release of internal audits of
the programme, which oversaw tens of billions of dollars in contracts.
Don't forget, the UN is to be held at a higher standard then the USA.
Yea right.

A report into the August bombing of the UN's headquarters in Baghdad,
which killed 22 people, found that UN officials had underestimated the anger
felt by Iraqis at the United Nations.
Ohh no. This can't be! Iraq mad at the UN for helping Saddam keep them poor?
Impossible. How dare them evil Iraqi civilians.
BRING BACK SADDAM (cries the UN).

God Bless America

No, don't say that. There are implications to such actions. Such as,
If we kick out the UN, there could be a Peon-World-War
between the cute little countries.

Lemmings all over the world could be killed.
By the 10's of dozens!

The UN is a power house. How could the USA keep the UN from attacking us
from all their LEMMINGS. OMFG, the lemmings are the worst people in the world.
Dear god, No lemmings. It's an election year.

Huh? After?, Oh hell yea. Time to stomp some lemming ass.

But only if they fuck with us first, right?
LMFAO, NOT!

Yum,

Then we need to take all power away from Alan Greenspan by abolishing the federal reserve and putting the U.S. Treasury in charge of creating interest free money like Lincoln and Kennedy did. While we are at it, we can get rid of the IRS, wipe out the 16th ammendment which was never really ratified. Make a flat tax as described here:

hey,

well, basically, the flat tax would be imposed by the governmetn at a
single falt rate, for instance 17%. On tax day, we would calculatew
our taxes by taking our income, deducting the one allowed deduction
based on marital status and children (For instance, a married man with
2 kids would deduct roughly 25,000 from his taxable income), and then
take the remainder and multiply it by .17 (the tax rate). We wouldn't
tax either dividend income (on the personal level at least) or the
interst income we make on our bank accounts. all we would tax form
each person would be their income - the deduction. Ther wouldn't be
any other deductions, as they wouldn't be as necessary. As for
brakets, the point of the flat tax is that everybody pays the same
rate, and no one has to pay more just because they make more. What
brakets do is create a system in which you move up to the top of your
braket and then are suddenly bumped into the lower half of a higher
taxed braket. This means that somebody in the lower class could
steadily earn more and more and then suddenyl find themself paying a
much larger tax rate. The flat tax is meant to get rid of this
problem. It would help business, make the tax code easier for average
Americans, and as an added bonus, we could get rid of the IRS.
Hope this helps.

Adam

and take away power from FEMA to deny rights during an emergency.

lol, what? exactly what notes do you think should provide zero return?

You want to penalise savers and sell debt at no cost? Who do you think is going to buy debt with no real return? How do you propose the US government sustain the deficit if it's paying no coupons on it's notes?
You'd stop almost all investment in US companies and kill the liquidity in the money markets overnight, not to mention the effect on inflation.

Go back to the early 1930's when US rates were zero-bound and you'll see industrial output fell by 50% as a result. Or take a look at Japan who are still recovering from a similar policies in the 90's. In the increasingly globalised society, what would stop everyone moving their money overseas?

Zero interest rates create and perpetuate consumer-driven asset bubbles, which must eventually burst. Also, by lowering the credit spreads between low and high quality debt, you simply prop up 'bad' or bankrupt companies. This must eventually lead to deflationary pressures and unemployment. Even worse than that, with interest rates at 0, there is effectively an abscence of monetary policy which makes stimulating the economy rather difficult.

US interest rates are going to rise soon, and it's long overdue.
