I keep thinking this whole outsourcing debacle is just an election year ploy against the Bush organization to win votes. I have no stats really but i bet NAFTA has sent more jobs out of this country than the 3% that went to India and other third world countries through outsourcing. BTW neither NAFTA or Outsourcing was started by Bush but by Mr 'cigar in the cunny' Clinton. It only seems that outsourcing is a much bigger problem becuase the jobs that went to NAFTA are a lower class problem while Outsourcing is a middle class problem.

I also think this whole situation is going to start (or has already started) a new kind of racism towards Indians becuase we fear they will take all our jobs away. They arent trying to screw america, they just want a better way of life for their people.

IMO in order to battle/equalize outsourcing we need to respond the best way we know how. First send american impulse stores over there so the indians will spend money on consumer products, then send american unions over there to garner pay raises. In no time flat India will be on strike for more pay then those american companies eventual get so fed up they will say fuck this it isnt worth the trouble. More than likely those outsourced jobs will come back to the US.

As to outsourcing, don't be so ridiculous as to think that this is a Bush or Clinton created problem. Outsourcing has been an issue since the early industrial revolution days. It has simply escalated over the years. It is up to the current and subsequent administrations to figure out how to preserve the integrity of our workforce. I don't know that sending unions to India would help - poverty is so prevalent there that striking from your fairly well paying office job is not likely to illicit the response desired- but potentially down the road that could be a strategy worth pursuing.

Chuk is right about the potential for racism with regard to this issue. I see this becoming a real problem in years to come.

It's a tough situation. The sad fact of the matter is it makes sense in some cases, particularly when you look at the small, short-term picture, to outsource certain white collar jobs. However, the erosive effects on our economy *will* be felt if current trends continue and I think outsourcing in this fashion will hurt our long-term economy. There needs to be a healthy balance of incentives and disincentives in place to ensure the American worker- the American people- are given a reasonable chance. I know you folks on the right don't like regulating the free market, but the alternative seems far worse.

The common misconception is we are in a free market.

Relatively free market. Better?

A pure free market is called anarchy.

I just think the better, cheaper, and faster solution would be to just not purchase tech support from companies who have outsourced.

My father is a programmer for a defense contractor who has outsourced some of its work to India. He tells me about the some of the crap programs that come out of that country and how he has to spend more time trying to figure out the spaghetti code then it would have taken him to just write the program. Apparently, the workers whom they outsource to don't believe in subroutines...they code everything in one large main program. Debugging must be a nightmare.

Those too terms dont mingle well. Its either regulated or free. Right now its regulated. Could it be regulatef more? Sure. My point is we need to stop viewing the market as free. If we want to make it free (which I wanna do) then do it. If we want to regulate then lets regulate. This half assed stuff we do is not cutting atm.

Also, whats so wrong with anarchy?
