Default Coors for Senator!?

As many of you know, Senator Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell, R-Colorado, has announced his retirement. He was the ONLY Native American in the Senate. Just yesterday, Pete Coors entered the race for the Republican nomination to run for Campbell's seat.

I am just curious what you all think about having a Brewery Magnate run for a Senate seat?

Because it's better than voting for someone who doesn't make beer at all.

Exactly! It's why Denver's mayor (Hickenlooper) was elected; he owns and runs a brewery.

Who cares what party he affiliates himself with? He makes beer!

I wouldn't even go far enough to call Coors "beer". It's more like Yeast-water.

But back to your question IM.
This guy inherited his power from his daddy. He never built a company, he has no legislative background. He has ideals, but no proven track record which he is responsible for himself. What are his qualifications, and why would he be able to do a good job?

Personally I wouldn't vote for him because of his family's ideology unless he proved different. However, I appreciate the fact that he has worked to improve his company's relations with gays, minorities etc.

Some of the best politicians come from a non-political background.

The fact that he has run his company very successfully does point to some skills in managing important decisions. Plus, alcohol companies have to be very careful about making sure drinkers are responsible, so I imagine he has a vested interest in keeping people safe.

But all this is irrelevant: it's still beer.
