Default Training Your Replacement

I think this is the only issue I have problems with in regards to this administration...the openness of allowing "offshoring" of jobs to other countries.

I understand it gives a competitive edge to US companies, and that it frees up money to "hire more people" in the US...supposedly.

I really have issues with the following though...

http://www.usatoday.com/money/workpl...-replace_x.htm

I wouldn't mind backing a law that would force the company to pay you 5 times your salary to train the new worker. If I was asked to train my overseas replacement, I would probably run into my boss' office without him in there, lock the door, and take a dump on his desk.

The only thing I can think of is have a backup career plan in a totally different industry. I work in the IT industry, I used to be a programmer, now I am a network engineer. Am I nervous about my job getting "offshored", yes, but not as much as the programming staff are. If I was still a programmer I would already be looking for work in a different industry or sector of IT that is less likely to be outsourced.

Do you have some sort of a parachute in case of job loss?

Hell, I'd do it with him in there

I'd then have goatse pop up on everyone's desktop every time they booted up.

Americans can be a funny breed.

The bastion of capitalism (when it suits them), the pushers of globalisation (when it suits them), the benefactors of free trade (when it suits them).

You can't have it both ways; live by the sword, die by the sword.

Quit whinging

I'm glad you made this statement with the consideration that many of us are none of these things.

I'm against globalization, in most of it's myriad forms. I'm against unfettered capitalism, and prefer quite a bit of regulation.

I am, however, for free trade. You really can't be otherwise without being a jackass to the rest of the world.
