Default The Passion of Christ

I can't decide whether this movie was boringly offensive or offensively boring.

It really should have been called: "Jesus Falls Down a Bunch."

Seriously I stopped counting how many times he went sprawling on the ground after about 30.

Mel Gibson just isn't a good enough director to make a powerful movie out of even the most obvious subject matter in the universe.

The movie had Monica Belluci in it and she wasn't even sexy. What a crime.

At any rate I felt kinda bad for that Jesus dude getting all banged up like that but seriously, what was the point behind this movie?

It didn't move me. It didn't prompt me to rethink any of my prior perceptions of christianity. It wasn't even controversial IMO. Any idiot can see that it wasn't intended to disparage Jews. It was just graphic violence and Jesus falling on his holy ass. If you are into that sort of thing I guess it might be your movie. I think the best description for this movie would be "Jesus porn."

I can foresee this movie being the end of Mel's career.

Save your $ and go rent Last Temptation of Christ. At least that movie has David Bowie in it.

I'm still going to see it, but I'm hoping to do so after the church groups get their fill. Was watching the news last night and they did a piece on the movie showing people walking out of the theater crying their souls out as if they had just witnessed the actual crucifixion. If I was walking out of the theater and saw that I definitely wouldn't be able to hold back some wiseass comment and then you'd read in the next day's paper "Smartass gets lynched by Christian group."

Jesus was a carpenter previously to his career as a prophet.

Which was illustrated in the movie...and watching the "messiah" building kitchen furniture was probably the most exciting part of the whole thing.

Jesus should have his own home improvement show I guess.

I dont think Mel is worried about his career at all. I am sure if you asked him he would say making this movie was the purpose of his career.

I have not yet seen the movie but isnt it like Titanic? You know the story before it happens.... so how could the story all by itself be that moving? The reality of seeing what happened is suppose to be what moves you but it isnt gonna move everyone. It is all a personal thing, if you are moved then cool, if not then big deal. It is still just a movie.

Wow,

Being stuck in Korea, I don't even hear about all the new movies coming out. I guess when I finally get back Stateside I will have a lot of renting to do.

Being Agnostic, I doubt I will see this one, unless it involves me getting laid!

I sort of knew how Titanic was going to end. I only sat through the entire thing to make sure they killed Leo. I remember sitting next to my girlfriend at the time, listening to her sob a bit and thinking "Hey, shit doesnt always float I guess"

Anyways, I will see the movie at a dollar theatre with all the other hard core cheapskates. No way am I paying full price for a movie with no car chases, hobbits, or pirates.

Is it true that the movie is in a foreign language with subtitles?

Yeshua get's flayed to the bone, to the BONE. You have to get a little bit uncomfortable with that if you are remotely humane. Aside from a storyline everybody and their entire city block has had drummed into them from childhood this movie does make some new moves. Mel didn't flunk film-making and the storyline is grist for the mill: this is a weepie flick.

Almost in tears 3 times, the acting is 95percent 1st rate and some cinematic moves on the heartstrings are serious film-making at work, the drama isn't just religious sop: there is real tension.

It needs an article because "Christ" is a title. Here is a definition:

DEFINITION: CHRIST
Greek name that means "anointed" (the word is Messiah in Hebrew). Jesus was Christ, the Anointed One who accomplished perfectly the mission of priest, prophet and kingthe savior foretold in the Old Testament.

Well that works for me. I always thought he was refered to as Christ, rather than The Christ. Learn something new everyday.

God damn, Misty, could you for once in your worthless life type something like a normal fucking human being? You think you're coming across as erudite and well-read using the words that you do but let me give you a tip: YOU'RE COMING ACROSS AS A FUCKING IDIOT.

Phrases like "Mel didn't flunk film-making and the storyline is grist for the mill" and "the drama isn't just religious sop" totally detract from any point which you are trying to make by distracting the reader with your pomposity.. in addition to that, they make some people want to stab out their own eyeballs because it would be less painful than reading any more of what you post. Please do us all a favor and consider changing your writing style. I'm pretty sure there would be prayers of thanksgiving were you to suddenly start posting like a 6th grader.

[Edit: Btw, I realize that this is one of the most legible posts that Misty has ever put up, and the writing style STILL made me totally lose track of the post topic. Maybe that's just because it called to mind all the other stupid shit he's posted.]

More likely she was a conservative, and realized that's she been wasn't living life as Jesus would want her to live.

Khael, if you couldn't understand what Misty wrote, the problem is YOURS, not his/hers (?) Misty's post was short, concise, and very legible to anyone who has finished the third grade. Whether you agree or not, I don't give a gnat's ass, but to criticize because YOU don't understand just shows what an idiot you are. May I recommend a Mirriam-Webster Book, it's called a Dictionary, or if you are really adventurous, you might try something called The World Book Encyclopedia. They even come on a thing called a CD-ROM so you don't have to open a book and turn pages. Just use your mouse and keyboard, similar to how you use it here to make a post. Come on, I have faith in you, you can learn something (/crosses his fingers)

So let me get this right,
The only legitimate complaint about this movie is the violence?

Give me a break. What's happened to hollywood "and you" when violence
in a movie is a bad thing? Sheesh, Talk about double standards.

It's a movie about a book. Is this a first? Huh? no.
You little Whiny little pussies.
Go see it before you
start complaining,
at least.

The one thing people should consider is the fact that, the majority of Americans
are faithfull citizens and interested in a true movie from the bible.

Why complain? You don't see these people trying to ban the "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" do you?
Hell, that was a true story and a book was written. Got it?

If you don't like what you read, don't see it. But remember that if you do,
it is a correct interpretation of the last 12 hours of Jesus' life.
It's your money..

GOD BLESS AMERICA
Zolmaz.

Correct interpretation of the last 12 hours of Jesus's life my ass. History can't even prove if he existed or not. Two of the Gospels are rewrites of the other two, and only two of the writers of the Gospels (authorship unknown, certainly not any "St. Matthew" or St. John") were contemporaries of Jesus. And their accounts differ so wildly it's not funny.

But, yes, it's all gospel (sad pun intended).

I think a few archeological sites corroborate the temples and stuff from Jesus' time, there are some Roman accounts which corroborate the existence of the man I've heard second-hand. I'm not a biblical scholar nor even religious much. But I like to believe he truly lived, that he was a leader of disciples, and was probably well liked before he came afoul of the Rabbinical/Pharisee/Scribe bureaucracy.

He is said (in the bible) to be descended from the house of David, there's a claim to the blood of the Kings of Israel in his family tree however distant. Perhaps the significance of his actual birth was scorned by establishment, he was born in a stable. There's the biblical thing about Herod killing all male children born that day; perhaps time altered the telling of that narrative before it was written down, when it simply referred to a denial of Jesus birth on some dispute of fact. Not arguing that but I laud it as another possibility fitting into the Crucifixion.

Herod happened to be in town when Jesus rocked in through the gates to thunderous welcome. Jesus birth was registered in public census. Proof of birth. Shock. House of David. Shock. Scandal exposed by Lord Jesus, Herod a Roman puppet. Shock. Or perhaps there was too much reference of scripture.

Maybe Judas just wanted a martyr, but his secret plot backfired in a twisted way inside the Temple over something incorporating the Divine Right of Kings and scripture in its arguement. Certainly Christ was set up but Judas isn't the only dude with motives. That's the gist of it.
