OK now that I've listened to it, the first thing it reminded me of was The Alan Parsons Project circa Eye in the Sky. Very much a sound of that time. Yeah, I'll hand the EL&P influence to you as well.

Well I thought this would be more or less a very dead topic, but hey it got enough replies to warrant a reply.

OK now that I've listened to it, the first thing it reminded me of was The Alan Parsons Project circa Eye in the Sky.
[Sarcastic]You mean now that you've listened to it, the first thing it reminded you was a steaming pile of shit on a dinner plate! BWahahahaha! [/Sarcastic]

I never said the music was bad, I just said it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm just bothered by the fact its called ppp, mainly because I see it as a weak attempt to look unique. If that's not the case, (which of course it's not, at least publicly) carry on.

Yeah I botched it. Was thinking "Bed of Roses" and the roses just stuck.

Good call.

Kid Dynamite > Any band mentioned above.

Them, None More Black, Redemption 87, H2O, Gorilla Biscuits, and 7 Seconds have been dominating my playlist as of late.

I guess we just don't have the talent and innovation of cool bands like...um...Atreyu.
Hahahahahaha.

Though I beg to differ about true metalcore, the underground scene there is something Atreyu and their ilk will never be able to replicate to the masses through MTV. Then again, by metalcore I mean bands like the Cro-Mags and Unbroken, who actually started fusing aspects of metal with hardcore punk.

Not to mention the scene is still full of hardcore kids rather than MTV fucks looking for the next big thing (at least here in Arizona).

to be quite honest, i simply joke about Araya's music. I see it as, any musician that's trying to make it these days as a self-produced group (financially, creatively, etc.) deserves recognition.

Yeah, Metalcore does follow a formula, most music does. As i've said time and again, just because its easy doesn't make it shit. Hell, i can't stand D&D Metal (the Dream Theater/Symphony X shit), and that's very intricate. I'll jam out to AC/DC all damn day, though, which is quite possibly the easiest music ever played.

its MUSIC. Don't say certain stuff sucks or certain stuff is incredible...sound is incredible.

Art is Art. the fact that effort was made is worthy of being praised. whether the end result is to your liking isn't worth bashing it. Some people do enjoy it, Britney Spears is rich for a reason. Possibly because she makes very popular music?

and, word up Antilles =O

Long time no see, my metal punk brother.

Given, yes, Atreyu is definetly a bit MTVish...i don't realyl give two shits. Music doesn't neccesarily get bad when it gets popular. I still listen to the first Limp Bizkit CD and Slipknot CD on a regular basis. Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses was a great CD when it was released and no one heard of them, and now its a great album even when they're on the second stage of ozzfest. who gives a shit how much they're making, if they're making any money at all, they're getting exposure, and they're a great group.

Shai-Hulud, on the other hand, broke up way too soon.

This whole thread is a weak attempt by yourself to look unique...however once again, thank you for all the publicity. It's not often that I get a whole thread in which I can be a complete attention whore.

I mean, Jesus, its kind of hard to not kick ass when Allen Ginsburg lived in the same apartment as you.

Oh I won't deny liking Atreyu, I just won't praise them for being good or anything haha. They are fun live, I used to spin the cd a lot back in the day, thats about it. Them, Poison the Well, From Autumn to Ashes, etc. are all the bands that turned every single pop punk kid at my old high school into these new fashioncore kids, though. Luckily 99% are doing it to be cool and never come out to shows, but its still annoying. I'm just waiting for this phase to pass already.

I was on a huge metalcore kick for the longest time. I listened to Every Time I Die's latest more than really any of my other cds. Dambala's band If Hope Dies is getting better and better by the minute, too. They've come a helluva long way, two record released albums out now. Finally pulled off a full U.S. tour with On Broken Wings, The Judas Cradle, Cannae, some dates with As I Lay Dying.

I've kinda sunk back from it all, though, and have just been listening to a lot of old school hardcore. Well that, and admittedly, a bit of hip-hop. I wish I could make it out to Cali for the Redemption 87 reunion, thats going to be amazing.

And yes, Shai Hulud broke up too fast. It is awesome they did one final tour with Chad back on vocals, I really wish I could've seen that.

Check out Zombie Apocalypse if you haven't. Several members, including Matt Fox. Basically sounds like Shai Hulud, but with each song just sped up a ton. Different, but still has that Shai Hulud touch.

the whole time. And not a cool scream either. A little whiney bitch scream.

Hey Darmu,

Haha on the LB and slipknot. Me too, man. Me too.

P.S.

Faeni,
That is excellent.

Sorry dude. Oggie moved this thread here I'm guessing because he wants rants and flames not related to EQ to take place here now. Us folks who don't give a rat's ass about politics are apparently stuck here with you insane zealots so you better get used to it...to tell the truth it makes me feel icky that such a cool thread about ME(everytime I say the word 'ME' there should be fanfare and confetti) has to take place in this hellhole.

Um...ok. I guess I should feel insulted at this point because some silly little fellow said I sucked at a game I haven't played in almost a year? Funny that I feel strangely indifferent.

At least rip on me for RL stuff like the rest of the trolls...shit I have a whole thread about my RL shit on this forum. Plenty of ammo there for ya toots.

Zolmaz, i love you, but that's spoken like a true republican.

=D

Well that's awesome about Dambala...And don't get me wrong or anything Ant, i'm far from fashionable about the whole metalcore shit...Its more like when you get caught up in a trend before it happens...what are you going to do, simply change so you can try and dodge it? why? the Music's great, i'm not doing it for the fashion...I shouldn't have to defend what i like simply because a bunch of jerkasses think its cool because its fashionable. But then again, look at the state of Emo...Its 99% based around fashion. Who would have thought listening to music about being nerdy and never getting any would become so popular? Who would have thought having a Fugazi bumper sticker would make you instantly cool, not some coffee house/music store nerd?

Yes, i heard Zombie Apocolypse...on the local College Station, every friday night there's a 4 hour punk/ska/hardcore show, they had most of Shai Hulud in studio after they played the Take Action show here and they mentioned it and played a few songs. Kind of seemed more like a parody band, really, though...

Poison The Well, sadly, i cannot stand...the only real exposure i've had was live, and that was at Warped last year...was disappointed because my friends were hyping them as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

To catch a glimpse where i am musically, i have the new Thrice CD (which is very, very good), Shai Hulud's In Blood Ill Tempered (which is a great album too), and an AK1200 mix i made...old habits die hard.

Araya, your hippie shit sucks...go listen to Bauhaus and build shrines to Roxy Music or whatever the hell you listen to.

I'm not really into Roxy Music thanks but yea I am probably fairly hippy these days. Not even that into Bauhaus honestly anymore. I pretty much listen to whatever my GF picks out lately which is a lot of foreign electronic stuff like Air, Her Space Holiday, etc. Great music to fuck to.

Nu-Punk.

Leave Roxy Music out of your post-grunge faux-punk fantasies boy! Their music is timeless and sacrosanct

Nice to know you've actually heard of them, though!
