In fact some cant agree on the manufac

Not sure, the claim they have to special order a Samsung 2433 and a Radeon 5860

Well if I must buy the machine one piece at a time, can anyone suggest a good supplier?

Newegg.com has worked out OK for me. Amazon often has a lot of items as well.

For home use we prefer to build the units. I second Faf's suggestion for Newegg.com.

I'll join the chorus. Not that I'm a high volume purchaser, but Newegg has never disappointed. My last build was all components through Newegg, priced reasonably and delivered quickly.

Well this build is to play DC Online and it is affordable but not exotic.
Bottom line
i7 860
4 gigs on board
1.5 tera
Radeon HD 5850
Probably only one but if possible two x-fire
Samsung 2433 assuming I can find a supplier.
Windows7(shudder) (wife insists)

This machine will be a game machine soley

If this build works.....then she will duplicate it.

My old machine (which has never given me any problem except its too slow for games now)
will become a unix box w a sniffer.

I am trying to follow Oggies guidelines if I can find the parts

I don't see why you need to "shudder" at Windows 7. I have been using the x64 version since the RC and it is much better than XP. It takes all the hardware I can throw at it and I have yet to see it crash. It is very fast to boot up (15 to 20 seconds from post to desktop). Takes up around 22% of physical memory (And this scales along different platforms. My wife's laptop has half the RAM as my box, but it only uses 22% physical memory.) and runs all my games like a champ. I also like the improved UAC. The Vista UAC was just horrible. The Win 7 UAC doesn't nag to clear a dialogue box everytime you want to do something: it behaves more like Fedora's.

Any way, I drank the Windows 7 Koolaid and it is mighty tasty.

PS—What kind of power supply are you using? I hope it is at least 700 watts on a single rail. The Radeons are might power hungry; especially in a X-fire. Not to mention that some quad core i7-860 want 95 watts for themselves.

750 corsair atx certified x-fire ready (whatever that means)

If it really draws 750w We wont need to use the heater this winter

Corsair builds a good PSU and I believe it is an 80+ one, so is energy efficient. If it is in the TX line then even better. You should have enough power to run your X-fire for sure. It doesn't draw 750W continously, but will supply up to 750W. So you are out of luck with having a new heater.

It is done....if it works I will try CoH or EVE just for laughs.

I am a wargamer first and I am doing this buy because I expect rampant inflation,
but wage increases will NOT occur.

Meaning, if you wait too long, you wont be able to get one.

Could be I am wrong, in which case, I will rejoice.
