Our guild has had this discussion a few times... While I don't see "Jap" as derogatory, some people do. Therefore, don't use it. That's how I see it.

It's like the N word... it's definition is "An ignorant person", but has come to mean something else over the years and is seen as derogatory towards blacks... so don't use it.

A black friend of mine through the Internet was trying to explain how this worked, but I still don't quite understand it.

"It was used as a derogatory word to describe black people, but then blacks adopted it as a bond between each other. It's not okay when white people use it, though, because it's just wrong. You don't see Eminem rapping about the word, because he's smart."

...something like that... O.o

I agree with your Gurg. People are going to think what they think about different races, whether they use these words or not. If someone doesn't use one of these words, it doesn't mean that they respect more than if they did use one of these words.

Now, what was this thread all about? Oh yes, Vex Thal guilds, who are they again??

I'm Korean... feel free to use the word Jap around me anytime.

In fact I think the whole getting offended over racial slurs is kinda silly.

Gook, Jap, Nip, Slant-eye, Zipperhead... to name a few.

They just make me laugh when people use them - they are just words.

Though some people have more sensitivity than others to it. Jap is one of the far "milder" terms.

Though to get back on track... sort of.

VT vs VP - which would you rather do

That makes as much sense as someone saying, "I'm Jewish...feel free to use the word Kraut around me anytime."

Anyway, I thought camping for that shard in ME was bad...certains parts of VT make my brain turn to Jello and my eyes swim to the back of my head. What keeps me going (between naps) is fun conversation in /g.

After the fourth or fifth hour in Vex Thal, people start to loosen up. By the ninth or tenth hour, we're READY to see a four armed dominatrix bounce the raid across the room.

VT or VP? You can walk through VP and get to Sky. VT doesn't go anywhere.

Someday, maybe, I'll miss VT.

Maybe.

Someday.

Well, there's a difference in the way black people use the N word.

First of all, they don't sound like white trailer park trash when it's used. Think of the N word replacing the "er" with "a". It's pretty much a slang term for friend/buddy

I call my friends "nigga" all the time and they don't take offense to it. It's all about how the word is used and if you're cool with them or not.

Okay so I'm a bastard... I had to at least attempt some cheesy humor...

I'm a AGGIE... Trust me I've heard all the jokes...

You know why the numbers 911 had to be taken off the back side of University police cars? Aggies kept stealing them thinking their were getting away in a Porsche..
