Hope so, it really is a good idea for their people. Of course, people will get multiple accounts ect and thwart it, so it wont accomplish much of anything

Isn't Communism great? Keeping people from making all those unhealthy-for-them decisions.

Yeah, if China let's its people make their own decisions they wouldn't be so crowded. Sometimes a little Darwin is a good thing.

the Chinese gov restricts births in china. removing the gov would most likly double the population in china in 5 years. 10 years later double it again.

while im not in favor of communism, in china case it keeps it fairly stable.

Stable and peaceful is good. at this time dont you think?

We're not exactly innocent in that department either.

You really think our drug policies are to protect the users? How naive.

Nope, I don't agree that's a comparative example.

To use the annoying quote: "driving is a privilege, not a right". Thus government making laws that people have to use seatbelts is simply an extension of "you have to do X otherwise we won't let you drive".

This is not the same thing as a law designed to protect people where government has no initial jurisdiction.

And if you are going to still argue for seatbelts, I will also add this. Seatbelts are different because the requirement is not hinding or harming you. Yes yes, I suppose some people are slightly uncomfortable having a seatbelt on (never understood that myself). But let's be reasonable here.. A slight discomfort is not really hindering or harming you.

Well.. that's cause you are a dorf.. I have no idea how big you are, but I'm 6'5" tall and about 270lbs.. most cars are already dreadfully uncomfortable and seatbelts just make them that much more uncomfortable.. the lap part doesn't bother me at all.. but the shoulder strap is just plain annoying unless I put it under my arm.. then I can deal with it.

All he had to do was find an example of a law that protects us from making decisions which are harmful to ourselves. Seatbelt laws definitely qualify. Drug laws also qualify, despite some of the howling. They were written and still exist in order to prevent us from harming ourselves.

It is worth noting, though, that the description of the issue Zzapp gave us was incomplete. Not only does the Chinese law protect people from themselves, as some of our laws do here. Unlike US law, it also places draconian restrictions on a personal freedom which many of us hold dear: the right to decide how many kids we are going to have. It also encourages quite a lot of abortions (and even infanticide) because so many prefer to have a son.

Heh, I am 6'2" 240 lbs and wear a seatbelt with 30 lbs of equipment on to include a duty belt and body armor. Sorry, no excuse there.

Not really... Stability can also be read as stagnation and peace as oppression. You have to look at the price. Is peace worth having your freedoms curtailed? Is Stability worth being told you can only have 1 child and that you'll be persecuted if you have more?

Yup I am biased!!

That said, don't know what you drive but, I dirve a Crown Vic at work, it is nice and roomy. POV is a Ford Ranger with an extended cab. I know what you mean about nothing seems to be built for you. I have found light trucks with an extended cab to be roomy and for some reason the seatbelt seems less restrictive. If ya get a Ranger/S-10/Dakota they come with varying engines and are quite milage friendly and usually have large tanks. Something to look into for comfort.
