We have a pair of mated Clownfish who we call Matt & Austin. Matt's the big one. They're named after our two Salesmen, of which, Matt is obviously much taller than Austin...

Anyway, we have a pretty decent reef tank at work and just added an anemone to it. Matt & Austin have been in since we 1st introduced fish to the tank about 4 months ago. Well, Austin discovered the anemone 1st and it's damn near the funniest thing you've ever seen to watch him frolic in this thing. It's like a cat finding a bushel of catnip! Now Matt's also discovered it, but she's so large she can't go hiding inside like Austin can... But I figured you people would get a kick out of the video and pictures I took this morning...

Enjoy!

Oh yes: I forgot to add, I expect to see some baby clowns anytime now

Clowns scare me. Clown fish make me not want to go into the water.

Yeah, clown fish have some sort of freaky addiction to anemone. Everytime I see the two of 'em in a tank together, the clown fish is gettin his groove on in the middle of one of 'em. Freaky, but cool.

She's mostly recovered since you took the term "eating out" literally. I still like to leave the scabs on for roughness though.

Reef tanks are hard to keep, waaaaay too much work!
I thought clownfish rubbed against anemones to clean themselves... so... wouldn't that mean you're peeping on Matt and Austin bathing?
Don't drop the soap fellas... >

Clown fish and anemones hang out all the time and help each other out. Anemones are fish-eating animals that look like underwater flowers and have hundreds of poisonous tentacles. Clown fish find most of their food by mooching off the anemone. Clown fish wait until the anemone paralyzes and eats a fish, then helps itself to the bits which the anemone doesn't eat. Clown fish avoid being harmed by the anemones by swimming a funky dance around the anemone's poisonous tentacles. Clowns allow the tentacles to graze their bodies until they build up an immunity to the poison. In exchange for getting food from the anemones, the clown fish clean the anemones by eating dead tentacles. Clowns also protect anemones from predators.
Kinda a kiddie site, but it explains the relationship between clowns and anemone.
