Start/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and create a restore point. I personally dont use it since it takes ALOT of room and its just better to start froms scratch.

System restore won't help you if you need to reformat the drive. Best bet is to keep all your software CD's organized and regularly back up anything that you want to save. Burn all your favorites, pictures, music and video to CD/DVD every so often.

I keep all my programs stored on a different drive so if i do format, the data doesnt get erased. I want to know if there was a way that i could save all the commands that say the programs are installed? I dont mind reinstalling if i format the drive but its a pain in the ass that i have to do the same if i just want to reload XP and for it to remember all the programs i installed on oher drives..

I'd suggest Norton Ghost. You can make an image of your System Drive once you get everything set up they way you like it. If you want to wipe the machine you can just reapply that image and it will have all your system settings in place.

You might be able to do it by backing up your registry and then restoring it after you reload win xp... Never actually tried that so I can't say for sure, but it may be worth a shot. (Assuming the drive letters aren't going to change around and stuff like that)

Of course restoring your old registry may not be the best solution depending on why you are reloading XP.

Favorites and other stuff like that are stored in the Documents and Settings folder, so you would probably want to back that up as well.

Just some thoughts... like I said I have never tried it... So take it for what its worth...

Good Luck,

Soulz
