I wonder if he ever looks down on the can and pits the floaters and sinkers against each other in a battle of the minds.

Hey, Chuckles, you're the one that got his ass in a twist because someone dared voice an opinion. You set the standard with that BS about lacking knowledge of the topic at hand. It got turned around on you, and now you're telling me I'm wrong to say that opinions don't matter? You're the one denying someone the right to an opinion, not me.

Put down the glue, Cupcake. It's bad for you.

I didnt say the kid didn't need to be punished, Ive said many times that kids today need to be held responsible for their actions and be shown that their are consequences for their actions (and not grounding them from their computer) BUT, I also think that the people that were in control of the situation should take some of the heat, I guess I always figured when your responsible for something you cover all the bases so things don't happen (at least try to avoid simple things like putting paintings in arms reach of children).

You have a point. Most art galleries have a plexiglas sheet over anything which is prone to decay, or is worth any significant amount of money.

I'm still trying to convince my coworkers that we can market paint cans with inhaler nozzles. We could sell 'em alongside USB staplers and dildos with built-in pedometers.

You know you want a dil-dometer.

Yeah, we'd want them but I'm sure Fanon would somehow find a way to corner the market and stockpile them.

Dude, I SO want a dildometer! What a fucking awesome idea! It'd be like doubling endorphin output, lessening the bitch factor by twice as much at once!

I agreed with you on this. In fact, I think the gallery had ad uty to protect the property/investment of the owner and this painting should not have been in such an easily accessible position. As stated, it is customary for plexiglass or some other protective measure to be taken, and I would have expected that when dealing with property such as this. On that issue, I would hope the owner of the painting will take measures against the gallery, or possibly the insurance might take action. Honestly, I am surprised the insurance company doesn't have a bit stricter requirements for exhibition in order to protect thier butts. If I was the insurance ompany here, I would take a long hard look at the carrying agent for this person, and think a long time about making sure this didn't happen again.

When it comes down to the big numbers (millions), it's the insurance company of either the gallery or the owner that would haveto cover this, as far as monetary concerns, the buck stopped with them. I do not like the idea of insurance companies paying out absurd compensations for crap like this, I think it hurts everyone in the end. Besides, if I was an agent in this case, I think the least I would do to reduce the potential risk of payout is visit an art gallery where 1.5 million corporate dollars are being displayed to the public. Does anyone else think that is too much to ask? I have a feeling at least one person was fired over this.

-edit - Although now that I think about it, I could have easily touched any of the paintings at the national gallery in D.C.
