Default The Freeest economies in the World 2008

http://www.heritage.org/research/fea.../countries.cfm

Hong Kong came in #1, The US #5, Canada #6, and North Korea came in last (157th) with only 3% economic freedom.

Hong Kong being #1 strikes me as a bit wierd given their transfer over to Chinese rule, but I've never been there. Maybe the they're so free because the Chinese can't figure out what's going on so they just leave 'em alone.

As far as I know, the Chinese have pretty much left Hong Kong alone.

Id like to know the criteria in the equation......... although we may not be the most economically free nation and I won't argue the point it would be cool to know just how they figured it out and what they used to do so.

I do wonder how they figured this. Maybe it has to do with businesses and barriers to entry and so forth. Still, surprising and interesting. I didn't think the U.S. was the "most free" anything anymore.

Economic regulations limit some freedoms there, and social regulations have hindered social freedoms.... all in all we're still much better than most places.

You can go to the website and look it over. They have an interactive database that lists just about everything you'd want to know about each economy.
