A small to medium size canine companion is not a bad thing, but isn't it surprising to learn the English breed "Staffordshire Bull Terrier" is such a popular pet (3rd in Australia). This is the smaller version of the similar "American Staffordshire Terrier" with slightly different name and a dubious owner/handler rep.
With obedience and socialisation, agility club and regular environmental stimulii the Staffy is a sturdy pet, its fans report it as dependable.. read will not cower away when kicked or otherwise challenged by home invader But we all know this also means it will fight on through to a grotesque degree of sustained injury, and even to its own death... this is not a trifling dog. In a dogfight, or otherwise. Not accounting for other historical breeds of fighting dog, case in particular concerning one dog breed only. The interest is not about discussing dogfights, or blood 'sport'. Or size. When handled by a good owner, trained and kept happily entertained a Staffy can be a good canine citizen. But the breed trait of 'gameness' that historically made them prized fighters, in the distant past, today is both admirable in its place - like safely stored explosive ordinance - and problematic (the stuff goes 'off'). Owning one necessitates the exercise of a tight leash in the presence of strange dogs, and departure, or the result is damnable. If any dog is declared a dangerous dog its owners face jail next time shit happens (here in Oz) and there are legal requirements to house - secure fencing, identifying 'hazard' collar, compulsory de-sexing, failure to keep dog registration current is thereafter a criminal offence if you persist in keeping a declared dangerous dog. The vigilance or 'maintenance' requirement in this respect is very high, extreme, if owners are serious about soothing the public perception of these dogs. Would you own one, if you could be all these things?

I have a Chihuahua.. she's my baby. She is spoiled. She doesn't bark, and tells me everything I need to know by making faces at me. She's perfect. ![]() |

I can't be trusted to keep plants alive, let alone an animal.

No matter how many times he packed fertilizer around the base of that mighty oak, the wood invariably ended up limp. Too much fertilizer? Wrong type of manure? Who knows?
To answer Misty's question, no. I'm allergic. Only short exposure to dogs for me, or I'm a mess.

No. I don't trust risky dogs, especially around kids.
