N.H. Town Offers Pizza Deliverers 'Booze Bounty'

Thursday, May 27, 2004

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. The long arm of the law may be ringing your doorbell and holding a pizza.

Police in Portsmouth hope to enlist pizza delivery people and hotel clerks to help cut into underage drinking and parents who allow it.

Under a new law, it's illegal for the owner or occupants of a home or hotel room to host a gathering of five or more minors who are drinking or using drugs. Teens as young as 17 who throw a party could be tried as adults.

Portsmouth (search) Police Sergeant Mike Schwartz said the program is called the "Booze Bounty." (search) He said food delivery people and hotel clerks would receive $50 if their anonymous tips of suspicious activity leads to the arrest of a party host.

"The message being sent to parents is that it's not safe for them to host a party," said Jackie Valley, of the Community Diversion Program in Greenland, which works to keep at-risk youths (search) out of trouble with the law. "This doesn't change the fact that youths using alcohol is still illegal."

In Oz it is okay to drink alcohol under adult supervision. Implies a parent is accompanying the minor, or a sibling of adult age, or a close relative or guardian all of adult age.

You may drink at a hotel while in the presence of an adult if that adult says okay. Usually this is no more than a glass of wine or a Shandy (Lemon squash and beer) to go with a meal.

There's corruption of a minor laws too. You mustn't get a minor drunk and other stuff.

Gonna be a lot of pizza men getting their asses kicked soon I'd wager. I know for damn sure that some of the guys I ran with in high school would have chased that fucker down, dragged him out of his rust-brown Ford Festiva and made him earn that $50.

Horm, do you mean that you would have made him strip to his G-string so you and your buddies could slip dollar bills into it with your teeth while he danced?

Sorry. Couldn't resist.
