Default EARTHQUAKE!!!! heh

So yeah, we had an earthquake this afternoon. I'm seeing between 5.0 and 5.5 for reports. Initial report was 5.5 but they've dropped it down to 5.0.

I was just getting ready to leave work for a dental appointment when it hit at 1:41 pm eastern. I work on the 8th floor of an office building so it was definitely a strange feeling. First it felt like the floor dropped a couple of inches and then the building swayed for a good 15-20 seconds. We get the odd minor quake now and then but that's the strongest I remember.

By the time I got out of the building, people were flooding out of the buildings to the sidewalks. Everyone trying to use their phones but getting no connections(I'm assuming the network got flooded with traffic).

Other than that, not much to report from what I saw.

I don't get up from my couch unless it's a 5.8. jk

Actually, we have them all the time here...mostly in the 3's and low 4's. A 5 is a nice roller. I live less than a mile from the San Andreas fault, and about 10 miles from a couple more.

Yah I was like. WTF is that. then we had a little lurch. I was working through it saying to myself. theres no construction using explosives, trucks dont make that kinda noise. must be a quake.

By the time I had it worked out it was pretty much over and everyone was busy filling the streets going OMG. I was saying ok its over. Get back to freaking work! Nothings broke! shit isnt falling over.

More amusing is briefly for about 20 minutes the local phone systems including the cell towers were overloaded with everyone calling everyone at the same time.

What surprised me more was how far away it was felt. little 5.0 and people were feeling it as far away as Chicago.
