"I have found a certain type calls himself a Liberal...Now I always thaought I was a Liberal. I came up terribly surprised one time when I found out that I was a Right-Wing Conservative Extremist, when I listened to everybody's point of view that I ever met, and then decided how I should feel. But this so-called new Liberal group, Jesus, they never listen to your point of view..." -John wayne. My favorite movie is the one where he's a judge hunting down the communists hiding in america or something.

They've done worse than that... you do realise people are drinking Fosters and Castlemaine by choice because they're marketed as 'A good Australian beer' in the UK & US, right?*

I mean, you Aussies have some legitimately good beers. Wonderful if you're into that sort of thing. Yet, which are the ones that get exported? The ones that you can't sell in Australia itself because you'd get lynched by a bunch of boozy rednecks carrying torches with the burny bit pointing down.

It'd be like NZ exporting DB... or even worse, Tui. A student beer that can be used as a cheap alternative to roofing tar.

Laoke

* For those of you in the US & the UK - Fosters & Castlemaine are a joke that the Aussies are playing on the rest of the world. Castlemaine is 'love in a canoe' beer, and Fosters is similar to Budweiser in that it's better the first time through the Chihuahua, before they bottle it.

Good Australian Beers (Strictly MY Opinion)

Carlton Cold
Coopers (any type)
Boags (any type, every other beer from Tasmania sucks big fat herpies infected cock)

You want to taste a worst beer than Fosters? Try Tooheys Red, your tastebuds will never be the same, in a bad way.

That Yahoo Serious was some stupid shit, what was the point of the movie? Least Australians have Colin Hay to be proud of.. saw Men at Work in New York a few years back, they were awesome as usual.

Swan Lager, XXXX and Power's Bitter are all equally as vile. I got virulently sick knocking a case of Swan down on my 18th birthday. Totally disgusting suds.

Agree with Dwarkarn re: Carlton Cold. Beautifully clean and crisp beer. Getting drunk drinking that was a pleasure and a privilege (shame you couldn't get it on tap).

The Fosters sold in the US isn't the same beer as the one made by Carlton & United. Doesn't taste anything like the shit the black and tan swilling pensioners down at the RSL club drink. Still dreadful, but a different type of dreadful.

Yeah, it's a shame I don't emigrate to Australia really.

I'd raise the IQ of both countries if I did that....

Dwark, you forgot the most important one...

Tooheys Extra Dry...no beer on the market can touch extra dry imo...Coldies are good but cause phenomenal hangovers. and you cant forget the ever popular Vomit Bongs (VB)

As for the actual topic of mr irwin and his baby stunt...

Well, he did it for publicity, that much is clear, and it backfired on him. However, and he said this when he made his PUBLIC APOLOGY over what he did, crocs are his job, and the baby was his OWN SON. he may be a little nuts, but do you SERIOUSLY believe he would put his own son in mortal danger? it's his job to know crocs, and how they behave and react, and he knew that his son, while in "some" danger, was safe. it's not like he dangled the baby over the croc...watch the footage again..that baby is held SO tight to him, so close, it wasnt going anywhere.

The man has realised his mistake, and apologised for it. cut him some slack.

It's unfortunate that he is the image that the tourism industry likes to support for over here. let me tell you a little secret about Oz. Kangaroo's are pests, and the most common place to see one for 90% of Australians is either dead on the highway, or in a zoo. And good luck seeing a koala outside of a zoo too. the only animal i see on any regular basis are the possums that walk along my fence at night, and the cats that stalk them.

someone else posted it, but you will find that australians are very much like americans...except oatmeal is porridge, ketchup is Tomato Sauce, Beer is SO much better, and we put milk in our coffee (unless you are like me, have too many italian friends & drink espresso anyway!)

Have fun !

I feel sorry for the cats when they catch up to the possums. Brush-tailed possums have some serious claws (as do most arboreal marsupials) and would try to slice and dice the average cat. The cat may win in the end, but it'll be cut up and most likely sadder and wiser for the trouble. I've seen a few stratched up cats that've gone mano e mano with a possum.

I never get hangovers off coldies, I am practically immune to them , have to drink at least 8 of them before I feel any effects, that being said Tooheys Extra and Tooheys new are also good beers, just say away from that Tooheys Red Pig Swill kiddies.

Little hijack here but I heard Kangaroo is pretty tasty. If they are as prolific as rats over there (which I have -heard- only), why doesn't anyone farm/ranch them?

Kangaroos = dog food and floor mat leather.

As far as ranching them goes, you'd need 6 to 7 feet tall fences to pen them in, otherwise they'd leap right over them.

Not sure about the other states, but all kangaroos and wallabies are protected species in NSW and you need permits and bureaucratic hoop jumping to own a protected species.

In other words, they're more trouble than they're worth to keep on a farm.

Damn this thread.

No point in visiting Oz now... I was hoping for a country full of Irwins & Hogans.

JK - I find it odd how folks cling onto a particular image of a country no matter how obviously manufactured it is.

I travel to Asia frequently. The assumptions I've ran into are quite eye opening. "Do you know Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise/A-list superstar?" has come up in conversation several different times. As if Hollywood stars are just walking down Main Street, USA.
