Default Grimtug, port scammer

This evening I was hanging out with Mable the Druid in SRo, and a troll named Grimtug offered 50 pp for a port to GD. Since I kinda wanted to go to GD anyway, I told Mable she should pick him up.

Once we got to GD, he took a little extra time to port in, but he DID eventually show up. He ran into the center of the GD ring and promptly went LD in the ultra quick way that tends to mean the person in question hit /q.

You really don't want to do something like that to Mable Cabbagerot. She's one of the nicest people on the server and doesn't deserve a scam like that. So what if it was a lousy 50 pp. Live up to your commitments, Grimtug, and pay your fookin' port tabs.

Pfft, who charges for ports anyway.

I personally count my blessings if I get a 'thx' let alone a fully fledged 'thank you'.

Please don't switch this to a discussion of who charges for ports. That has nothing to do with this.

Grimtug was /shouting in SRo for a port to GD and offering 50 pp. Anyone who is offering to pay a decent sum of plat while trying to get their port should at least make the attempt to pay their porter. He did not. He didn't even say "Thanks" once we landed. After he zoned in, he ran forward and apparently /q'ed in the center of the GD circle.

If you have a hard time understanding why that comes off as rude, scammer behavior, then /shrug.

Default It isn't the payment ...

<sigh> Another who shouts offering one thing and then fails to follow through. Again, posts making an issue of whether or not someone should be paid for a mana service.

It is NOT about whether or not service classes should or should not seek 'payment' for their service. That is an individual choice. I respect those who wish payment; am grateful to those who waive it.

It is about those who initiate the "transaction" with a /shout of "Need (port, tl, rez, etc.) - paying Xpp". Having made the offer, it is their responsibility to fulfill their part of the transaction! That simple - pay what you promised. Anything less makes you a "scammer". I don't care if you offered 1cp for the service -- failing to pay that 1cp makes you a scammer in my book.

If you don't intend to pay, then stop your /shout before any offer of payment. If there are those of the class you need in the zone who have chosen to do free services, fine. You did not offer; they did not come to you because of any offer. If I have the time and am available, I'll respond to those /shouts "Need a rez" as quickly as I do to those that offer some payment. If I don't have the time, offering payment will not make any difference. If someone has not said they are paying X pp for a service, I expect nothing from them <a thanks would be polite though>. But if they have said they *are* offering X pp, then I expect to receive it!

Have I been stiffed on those who have offered to pay something and failed to do so? You betcha! Usually I just never agree to serve them again in the future. As the old saying goes, "screw me once, shame on you; screw me twice, shame on me."

Namnoc, it's not the 50pp, it's the aggravation of someone *possibly* (giving benefit of the doubt here) ripping ya off. The amount has nothing to do with the principles involved.

Geez, some people just don't get it....

Default I said Wakening Lands, B*tch!

just kidding of course (/chuckle).

first off, i never /shout anything other than victory cheers. /shouting for ports or for heals, etc. is gimpy. it was /ooc.

now, it's been a while from said port and, frankly, i don't even remember you or said port </shrug>. but im sorry if i linked on zone in. i often do zoning into velious. ill just hang indefinitely at the frozen port screen and i have to reboot my 'puter. i'm sure in this case by the time i'd rebooted, gotten something to drink, reloaded winamp playlists, restarted everquest and had finally entered the world i must have simply forgotten that somebody was waiting to collect on me. i apologize if you felt cheated. i do, really, that never feels good. but im not intentionally going to skip out on a 50 plat port tab. i spend way more than that on dorf heads.

anyhow, thanks for being tactful & courteous enough to try and resolve all this with me in game before trying slander my name.

There is a known issue with lockups/dropping upon zoning into GD, as a druid it happens a lot to me.
