Default My keyboard looks like an african jungle, help!

I keep my room as clean as possible, i dont even eat near my PC which is the internet geek thing to do. Yet i get massive dust in my keyboard and i cant get it out. Its a balck colored kb so any particle stands right out. It looks like a friggin dust forest.

Does anyone know a good method of cleaning your keyboard (besides the obvious tipping it upsdide down and shaking like a madman)?

Hah. You can pull the keys off (on most keyboards anyways). Much easier to clean it that way.

Canned air? Get a air filter for your computer room that has a HEPA filter.

Hehe last time i took a keyboard apart i ended up breaking it somehow. not to mention the keys went all over the place

I was thinking canned air but this stuff is like stuck between the keys.
The only thing i could think of is a toothbrush but i dunno if it would remove the dust or just push it around making it look worse.

Good compressed air comes out of the cannister at about 140 mph till 1" from the nozzle.

You'll be surprised at what it shifts.

Alternate between this and a hoover.

If it is truly stuck between the keys try rubbing alcohol and q-tips

alcohol dries quick just DONT stick soaking wet q-tips in your keyboard and let them drip rubbing alcohol down inside.

get the q-tip damp, not wet, and squeez it out before you stick it on your keyboard.

I have done it several times with several keyboards.

If you want it clean, as has been said...

canned air, alcohol dipped cotton swabs, and a vacuum cleaner..short of taking it apart and dousing the thing in alcohol and drying with canned air.

$20 will get you another one.

or you could take a damp somewhat soapy cloth, wipe the keys down (if they dirty) then take it someplace with an air compressor (gas stations usually will have one) and blast the thing with 60PSI or so. That will clean it out nicely.

I always bring my shit from home into work just to use the air compressor...canned air is too expensive and generally looses its 'umph' when cleaning entire PC's. 60PSI or so removes that layer of dust that canned air just cant move, as well as blowing out whatever dustbunny's may be hidden in the PS.

You could get a keyboard skin I suppose. One of my employees here at the office has one and likes it - no staples/paperclips falling down in between keys and no more worries about spilled coffee. http://www.compucover.com/

I have two keyboards, so this is easier for me, but just throw that sucker in the dishwasher. I did it with one of mine and it works just fine, after I let it dry out. Unless you take some compressed air to it, I'd recommend you let it dry out for at least a day (which is where the 2nd keyboard comes in handy).

Yup, Wildane's right. Give that keyboard a bath. Just make sure to not run the dry cycle. Heh. Or, if no dishwasher, chuck it (har) in the tub and give it a shower.
