Congressman doesn't have to toe the line anymore

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/....ap/index.html
A GOP Congressman who is retiring now says that this Iraq war is a mistake. I wonder how many GOP members would say this if they were allowed to speak their minds freely and not have to toe the party line.

Quote:

"I've reached the conclusion, retrospectively, now that the inadequate intelligence and faulty conclusions are being revealed, that all things being considered, it was a mistake to launch that military action," Rep. Doug Bereuter wrote in a letter to his constituents.

"Left unresolved for now is whether intelligence was intentionally misconstrued to justify military action," he said.
Letting his conscience be his guide he speaks truly to his constituents.

If they get beneath this charade they will find the truth that Bush manipulated the intelligence in favor of this war. There appears to be doubts from within the GOP on Bush's verity and now we finally have someone admitting it.

And the kicker is here....
Quote:

Bereuter said as a result of the war, "our country's reputation around the world has never been lower and our alliances are weakened."
Gee, and he isn't even writing a book or profiting off of this.

Futher proof that political parties are dumb.

You trust a man who waits until he has nothing at stake to reveal his charecter? Good call.

I would rather trust a Politian to do what's right, then what they are told.

You mean to tell me you honestly believe that after all these years of no dissent in the Republican party that no Republicans have real feelings?
Its funny how Paul O'Neil and this guy and a few others had to make a break with the party line to speak the truth.

How stupid. Don't you think it is a little late? Isn't hindsight great? I think what he votes for at the time is more important than him changing his mind down the road after he sees the outcome. Why is this even on here, posted twice no less?
