View Full Version : Fight Club.. erhm
Ogmuk 07-01-2000, 04:17 PM I read here a couple of weeks ago that it was good,
I rent it today,
it was worse than friggin COPLAND :|
It ruined my night!
/me pushed it on stop before it ended
Zarshae ShaeDee 07-01-2000, 09:20 PM Eeeek Ogmuk, to compare it to Copland is truly cruel! Copland sucked bigtime. I would put Copland among the worst movies I have ever seen. On the other hand Fight Club is fantastic, read the book at least. Maybe your put off by whats his name (lame actor, have a mental block)
The movie has alot of social comment to it. <Sets fire to her Ikea furniture too>
Zarshae
Ogmuk 07-02-2000, 05:51 AM Copland was very bad, true. But I didn't put copland on "stop" like I did with Fight Club. Fight Club is category "I want a friggin refund!" :)
The actors aren't bad, actually I rent it because of Norton. He was very good in Primal Fear.
Guess the movie just sucked.
It didn't completely ruin my night. "A Time to Kill" was on TV before I watched Fight Club. At least seen one good movie (though it wasn't the first time I saw it) that night, and FYI it wasn't Fight Club :)
Zarshae ShaeDee 07-02-2000, 08:46 PM I'm a huge Ed Norton fan as I think I've stated here before. Still got a mental block with the lame actor I'm refering too. Damn the guy from twelve monkeys, legends of the fall, meet joe black. Heh this is funny cause I know he is majorly famous. <Doh Brad Pitt, how slow am I>. Anyhow his character in Fight Club was originally offered to Shawn Penn, who I think would have been soooo much better. Shawn (sp)turned it down because he is getting somewhat typecast rofl. It's a shame you didn't watch the whole thing, alot of the confusion about what is happening is resolved more towards the end of the movie. I at least watched Copland to the end :P
/e wishes she hadn't

Ogmuk 07-03-2000, 02:11 AM I at least watched Copland to the end :P
/e wishes she hadn't
I agree with you there :D
Zorad 07-05-2000, 06:08 AM Wow, you are the first person I have heard that didn't like Fight Club, but whatever, I liked it, you didn't, people like different things.
I went and saw 2 movies over the long weekend, 1 Good, 1 Bad
Shaft-very good, lots of action, decent plot, Samuel kicks ass!
The Perfect Storm- Very bad, boring as hell,
Stop now if you plan on seeinf Storm.
Spoiler coming
I was glad they all died!!! It was the only good part of the movie.
Walterscott 07-05-2000, 07:37 AM Zorad,
Actually being that it's a true story (and they all died in real life), no spoiler there. Spoiler would have been if one of them had lived...
Fenrizar 07-05-2000, 09:40 AM Ya, if it were fiction.. hooray for the good ending.
Since it was fact, and the story was done partially in memoriam of the people who did lose their lives.
I wish it would've been a different ending. =(
Shaft - Good movie
Chicken Run - funny movie (rofl)
Perfect Storm - sucked.. i mean, ya.. no. it sucked... like poseiden adventure meets waterworld. ungh
Zorad 07-07-2000, 08:03 AM Well Walterscott, not everyone knew the whole story and I didn't want to ruin an already bad movie for anyone who actually did want to see it. I hate it when people tell me about a movie that I want to see, just let me know if you liked it or not. There was an Xmen special on the other night and I made sure not to watch it, you already get to see to much from the trailers, they take all the surprise out of some movies all in the name of marketing.
I would have rather seen the Discovery channel documentary of the perfect storm, it would have been a lot better.
johnnybadhigh 07-12-2000, 01:56 PM fight club was a grand movie that tapped into alot of the restlessness of the young american male. I'm immpressed that it made you want to read the book i didn't know it translated as well for women ;) i tried to get it myself but the sucky barns and noble didn't have it so i picked up his second book "survivor" tis a pretty good read that chuck boy with the last name i can't spell lol
Johnny BadHigh
johnnybadhigh 07-12-2000, 02:00 PM oh.. and i thought Ed Norton would have been a hell of alot better choice for the matrix then Reaves
Zorad 07-13-2000, 09:17 AM Have you seen American History X?? Ed Norton is excellent in that movie, he is a pretty diverse actor, and seems to pick good roles to show off his talents.
mr Toede 07-20-2000, 02:51 PM Rule #1 do not talk bad about fight club
Rule #2 do not talk bad about fight club
cmon the part where he beats the snot out of himself is classic! you cant beat that with a stick
ohh Hurrican and murder of crows i just saw and both were good.
and im never ever wrong about a movie
Arikel 09-10-2000, 10:50 PM Fight Club owns. Maybe my favorite movie of the year. Oggy listens to 80s music though, so I think I can forgive him. The Bangles have obviously warped his little ogre brain. :)
Ogmuk 09-10-2000, 11:45 PM Have you seen American History X??
Yup that's a good movie. Much and much better than Fight Club :)
The Shawshank Redemption is a *must* to see btw. :)
Kytherion 09-11-2000, 06:42 PM Ack. I must add commentary.
Fight Club was one of the most visceral, gut-wrenching examinations of life for the late 20s male in the US. This is not a movie meant to make you feel good.
This is desperation, disillusionment, and existential angst at its best (worst). The movie isn't really about fighting.
Give it another chance, man. You at least have to get to the part with the liposuction clinic. =)
Fendaar 09-12-2000, 12:02 AM Eeek, you thought it was that bad?!?!, I liked it so much I watched it a second time, (also to grasp what had actually happend, it was mind boggling, heh).
The movie is throws out something you would not expect, at least not from the title like most movies, it really is a good movie, you have to let it finish and get to the end credits then hit "stop" hehe. Give it a second chance.
Zorad 09-14-2000, 03:41 AM Yes Ogmuk, American History X and Shawshank are both great movies but so is Fight Club.
At least watch the whole thimg if you haven't yet, give it a chance.
I am not saying you are "wrong" if you don't like it, I just feel that if you haven't seen the whole thing you can't make a fair judgement.
The Hurricane is great also!
Kegolan 09-30-2000, 10:34 PM Ogmuk Broke Rule #1, 2 lol NEVER talk about Fight Club; )
Jaeden Grae 10-02-2000, 09:50 AM Kidding me Oggie,
I was camping outside the movie store on the DVD release date. Fight Club has to be one of the best movies ever. It's so deep, it's much like most Ogres, keep peeling off the harsh and disturbing outside and deep down inside you find a cute and fuzzy halfling that has all the answers.
Watch it again and again and again. It gets better every time you watch it.
Jae
/em splices single frames of porn into Disney movies
Aston Barr 10-24-2000, 06:45 PM acailia and i watch this movie at least once a week, we have been known to watch it twice in one day, i think acailia watched it 3 times one weekend. it is by far our favorite movie and we will definitely see you punished for badmouthing it. we almost know the dialogue for the whole movie we've seen it so many times. if sean penn had been in that movie besides brad pitt i would have eaten chili for a week then puked on the casting person. brad pitt owns.
how much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?
-Tyler Durden

Destian Holyknight 10-24-2000, 07:10 PM i think pitt is a very good actor. /shrug
norton is brilliant.
Ogmuk 10-25-2000, 02:12 AM I agree with Destian,
Pitt is very good, especially in Se7en.
Norton ownz, especially in Primal Fear and American History X.
But Fight Club sucked big time IMHO
Zarshae ShaeDee 10-25-2000, 02:30 PM Aaaaargh is it just me or has anyone else ever written a long post only to hit the escape key! Bah!
Anyhow the general drift was that Brad Pitt can only play a certain sort of character well, and when he moves from this mold he is awfull. His role is great in Seven Monkeys/ Seven/ Legend of the Fall/ Fight Club. Give him a role like Seven Years in Tibet and he is woefull! Watching that movie was like Seven Years Watching Paint Dry. He was meant to be Austrian and put on possibly the worst accent I have heard in a movie. A bit of trivia, the movie was based on a true story of a guy who escapes a prisoner of war camp in India and runs off to Tibet. He is meant to be a simple mountain climber, and the movie makes out he is unjustly imprisoned. The true story is he was actually a nazi, there where alot of embaressed film people.
Zar
Zarshae ShaeDee 10-25-2000, 08:05 PM Oh btw the author of Fight Club is Chuck Palahnuik, really fantastic for his first novel
